What mentoring and coaching support can the Women’s Leadership Network offer you?

As part of your membership offer you are entitled to some free mentoring and coaching.

If you a Women Champion of Change and have paid your membership fee as an individual you are entitled to one free session.

If your organisation is a member of the WLN, one woman from your organisation is entitled to two free sessions, or two women are entitles to one free session each.

When you have had your free sessions, if you want to continue with your mentoring or coaching you will pay for any subsequent sessions, plus any expenses entailed by your coach/mentor e.g. travel expenses.

How can coaching and mentoring help you in your learning and development?

Both coaching and mentoring are processes that enable you to achieve your potential. Both will help you think through your motivations, goals, skills and thought processes, and by using questioning techniques will help you identify solutions and actions to achieve your aims. Coaching and mentoring is at all times supportive and non-judgemental and will offer appropriate support within the coach and mentors sills set.

What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Although coaching and mentoring use the same skills there is a difference between the two.

Mentoring tends to focus on career and personal development and takes place when the mentee requires some advice, guidance or support. The mentor is usually more experienced and qualified and can pass on knowledge, experience and open doors to other contacts and networks.

Coaching generally focusses on specific development areas or issues. A coach would not necessarily have experience in the same line of work as you but can help you focus on achieving specific goals, on becoming more self-aware and to improve behavioural performance.

How do I choose the right coach or mentor for me?

  1. Think about what you want help and support with – is it a mentor you can turn to every now and then for advice and guidance about your work or career, or is it a coach who will help you think through specific issues to do with your personal and professional performance?
  2. Look at our list of coach and mentors and what they offer – does their experience and expertise match what you are looking for and does their location and preferred method suit you?
  3. Contact the WLN at info@wlnfe.org.uk with your contact details and your preferred choice of mentor or coach
  4. The WLN will contact the coach or mentor to check their availability and get back to you with details of how to contact the coach or mentor so that you can arrange their first session.
